“ScalersTalk口译进阶小组”的前身是“ScalersTalk交传小组”，该小组成立于2015年2月。现阶段，小组专注高级阶段的交替传译与同声传译训练，在巩固语言基本功的同时训练各类口译技能，为承担正式场合的口译打下坚实基础。
4月英译中的主题是气候变化与新能源，本周英译汉的练习材料是65周TED演讲嘉宾戈尔（Al Gore）关于气候变化的演讲“What comes after An Inconvenient Truth?”（视频及文字网址： Royal Society）的演讲（part 2），主题为“未来中国的走向”。同时，小组开始练习2017年政府工作报告的内容，每周1-3段，学习有关中国经济社会发展的词汇表达、讨论句式处理技巧。本日志整理第65周练习的英译汉部分，以及汉英限时视译的重点、难点段落。
Last year I showed these two slides so that demonstrate that the arctic ice cap, which for most of the last three million years has been the size of the lower 48 states, has shrunk by 40 percent. But this understates the seriousness of this particular problem because it doesn't show the thickness of the ice. The arctic ice cap is, in a sense, the beating heart of the global climate system. It expands in winter and contracts in summer. The next slide I show you will be a rapid fast-forward of what's happened over the last 25 years. The permanent ice is marked in red. As you see, it expands to the dark blue — that's the annual ice in winter, and it contracts in summer. The so-called permanent ice, five years old or older, you can see is almost like blood, spilling out of the body here. In 25 years it's gone from this, to this.
去年我展示了两个幻灯片，关于的是北极冰帽。在过去三百万年中，它的面积相当于缩减了的48个州，缩减了40%。但这些低估了严重性，因为这没有表示出冰帽的厚度。北极冰帽就好象跳动的心脏，位于全球气候系统中，冬天舒张，夏天收缩。下面我要展示的是极剧变化的情况，横跨25年。永冻冰用红色标识。你看，它正在变成深蓝色——这是年度冰，冬天形成，夏天收缩。所谓的“永冻”，是指五年或更久的冰，也像血液一样，输送到身体各部位。25年里，它从这里，到了这里。
arctic ice cap 北极冰帽
冰帽，是一种规模比大陆冰盖小，外形与其相似，而穹形。在压力不均匀情况下，冰体内的冰从中心向四周呈放射状漫流。它是大陆冰盖和山岳冰川的过渡类型。多分布在一些高原和岛屿上，故又有高原冰帽和岛屿冰帽之分。（来源：百度百科
“The arctic ice cap is, in a sense, the beating heart of the global climate system. It expands in winter and contracts in summer”全句需注意以下两点：
“in a sense”这类口语化或无实际意义的词可省译；
“the beating heart of the global climate system”中的“of”在处理时由介词转为动词，译作“位于”。用词比较开放，可以多加联想。
全句译为“北极冰帽就好象跳动的心脏，位于全球气候系统中，冬天舒张，夏天收缩”。
permanent ice 永冻冰。位于地球两极极的冰，其面积并非永恒不变，而是会随着气候的变化而使其面积有所增减。所以，夏季时极冠的面积会比冬季时小得多。不过，当中仍然有一部份是夏季时亦不会溶化，这一部份，就是被称为永冻冰的部份。然而，永冻冰虽然说不会溶化，但其范围亦会随着地球大范围（来源：百度百科

旁白：这关于的是重新赋权美国，最快地减少我们的依赖，陈旧、肮脏燃料正在谋杀我们的星球。男A：未来就在这里。风、太阳、新能源电网 男B：新的投资创造高薪工作。 旁白：重新赋权美国。是时候梦想成真了！ 戈尔：非洲有句谚语称，想要走得快，就独自前行；想要走得远，就结伴前行。我们要走得远且快。
“It's about repowering America. One of the fastest ways to cut our dependence on old dirty fuels that are killing our planet”一句的顺译可着重中心词汇，比如“fastest”、“cut our dependence”，同时将“fastest”转化成副词；并且在“on”前断句，前后分别处理成独立的句子，整句译作“这关于的是重新赋权美国，最快地减少我们的依赖，陈旧、肮脏燃料正在谋杀我们的星球”。
“. Wind, sun, a new energy grid”可直译成“风、太阳、新能源电网”，也可基于上文，推断处理成“风能、太阳能、新能源电网”。
“There is an old African proverb that says…”译作“非洲有句谚语称……”
上个月，我第十次来到震区，欣喜地看到：灾区最漂亮的是住房，最坚固的是学校，最现代的是医院，最满意的是居民。我邀请在座各位朋友，有机会到中国汶川走一走、看一看。如果你们身临其境，一定会为这里发生的奇迹感到震撼，也会从中真实地感受到中国的生机和活力。
Last month witnessed my tenth visit here. I was delighted to see that the most beautiful things were the houses, the most solid were the schools, the most modern were the hospitals and the most satisfied were the people. I invite you all to come to Wenchuan. If you were here, you would see the miracles and feel the vitality of China.
“上个月，我第十次来到震区”有两种译法：其一，用时间＋witness，译作“Last month witnessed my tenth visit here”；其二，解读为“上个月是我第十次来到震区”，译作“Last month was my tenth visit here”。
“欣喜地看到：灾区最漂亮的是住房，最坚固的是学校，最现代的是医院，最满意的是居民。”本句含句式“看到了……住房，……学校，……医院和……人民”，译作“I was delighted to see that the most beautiful things were the houses, the most solid were the schools, the most modern were the hospitals and the most satisfied were the people”，也可以把这几句处理成独立的句子，译作“I was delighted. The most beautiful things were the houses. The most solid were the schools. The most modern were the hospitals. The most satisfied were the people”。
“我邀请在座各位朋友，有机会到中国汶川走一走、看一看”中“邀请……到汶川”的用意就是“走一走、看一看”，因为时间紧急的情况下可以省译，译作“I invite you all to come to Wenchuan”。
第三步，到本世纪中叶，基本实现现代化，达到世界中等发达国家水平。2010年到2020年，是中国全面建设小康社会的关键阶段。“三步走”战略的核心和本质，都是坚持以人为本，增进全体中国人的福祉。沿着这条社会主义现代化道路前进，中国必将会有一个更加光明的未来。未来的中国，将是一个经济发达、人民富裕的国家。集中精力发展经济，不断改善人民生活，始终是中国政府的第一要务。
Third, by the middle of this century, to achieve modernization equal to a middle-income country. From 2010 to 2020, the development of a well off society is at its critical stage. The Three-Step Strategy is fundamentally about people-centered, about enhancing welfare of the Chinese people. With the path, China will be bound to have a brighter future. In the future, China will be a developed country with prosperous people. Focusing on the economy and improving people’s livelihood will continue to be the Chinese government’s top priority.
“‘三步走’ 战略的核心和本质都是坚持以人为本，增进全体中国人的福祉。”中的“核心和本质”可用一个副词来表示“fundamentally”，因为它的实际内容为后面的“坚持以人为本，增进全体中国人的福祉”。整句译为“The Three-Step Strategy is fundamentally about people-centered, about enhancing welfare of the Chinese people”。
“沿着这条社会主义现代化道路前进，中国必将会有一个更加光明的未来。”中的“沿着这条社会主义现代化道路前进”在本小段的段首就开始讲到，因为可减词，解读为“有了这条道路，中国必将……”。整句译为“With the path, China will be bound to have a brighter future”。
“未来的中国，将是一个经济发达、人民富裕的国家。集中精力发展经济，不断改善人民生活，始终是中国政府的第一要务”中的“经济发达”实质要表达的是“发达”，因为“经济发展”的目的为“发达”，因为在此省译“经济”；“集中精力发展经济”中的“发展”可省译，因为“集中精力”（focus on）去做……可包含“发展”的意义，因而译作“focusing on economy”。整句译作“Focusing on the economy and improving people’s livelihood will continue to be the Chinese government’s top priority”。
