写在前面的话

“ScalersTalk口译进阶小组”的前身是“ScalersTalk交传小组”，该小组成立于2015年2月，目前已完成虐口译训练（《英语三级口译实务》教材篇章精练与复盘）、口译通关训练（《英语二级口译实务》教材篇章精练与复盘以及口译进阶训练（英汉同声传译入门、政府工作报告汉英视译、英汉语言刻意训练）。2017年1月1日，小组正式更名为“ScalersTalk口译进阶小组，专注高级阶段的交替传译与同声传译训练。我们针对英译汉开展融“交替传译”、“无稿同传”、“限时视译”于一体的模块训练，汉译英部分将通过“反向进英”练习夯实成员的语言基础并继续通过政府工作报告汉译英帮助成员积累背景知识和有关中国各方面发展的表达。

本周复盘说明

2017年的英译中采用分话题练习的形式。每月确定一个主题。本月主题为国际和平与安全，所用材料选自联合国大会、安理会及国际刑警组织等国际组织会议的现场发言。

本周英译汉的练习材料是Remarks by the Secretary General Pan Ki-moon at UN的英文视频（视频网址http://t.cn/RMu4Aoq；文本网址http://t.cn/RMu4V0z），主题是UN与区域组织之间加强合作，维护国际和平与安全。在练完英汉交替传译、同声传译和限时视译后，学习原文的词汇、表达和句型句式。汉译英部分为政府工作报告视译练习。我们学习了相关表达、积累了领域知识。本日志为本周练习的英译汉部分，53周、54周的汉译英合并到下周复盘并推送日志。

I am pleased to be with you today. I thank the Russian presidency for convening this debate, this morning. Before turning to the subject at hand, I wish to say a few words about the latest developments regarding the International Criminal Court. The world has made enormous strides in building a global system of international criminal justice, with the International Criminal Court as its centrepiece. The ICC and other international tribunals have secured ground-breaking convictions. Yet we know that these and other gains have also been accompanied by setbacks and shortcomings. Prosecutions can take many years. Not all countries accept the ICC’s jurisdiction. Even some of those that do, do not always support the Court fully. And some are concerned that the Court has convicted only Africans despite evidence of crimes in other parts of the world. Indeed, in recent days, three African countries have expressed their intent to withdraw from the Court. I regret these steps, which could send a wrong message on these countries’ commitment to justice.

These challenges are best addressed not by diminishing support for the Court, but by strengthening it from within. Deterring future atrocities, delivering justice for victims, and defending the rules of war across the globe are far too important priorities to risk a retreat from the age of accountability that we have worked so hard to build and solidify.

• “…are far too important priorities to risk a retreat from the age of accountability that we have worked so hard to build and solidify”一句出现了“too…to…”的句型，表示“太……而不能……”，通常用来表示否定含义；risk a retreat， 有倒退的风险；from the age of accountability，介词“from”转化为动词“退出”。

To rise to the moment, the United Nations has completed a number of major reviews of our work. All emphasized the urgent need to prioritize conflict prevention – in a collective manner that draws on regional and global partnerships.
