The construction boss is not alone. Opinion polls suggest that Mr Trump is also popular with small-business owners. His campaign finance disclosures show hundreds of contributions from the owners of small firms that no one on Wall Street or in Washington, DC, has ever heard of.
The complacent response is that these entrepreneurs are fools who have been deceived. After all, Mr Trump’s business career has been built in the heart of the globalised part of the economy, not slogging it out in the trenches of Middle America. About 66% of the value of his business operations sits in New York, mainly in buildings in glittering Manhattan, according to Economist estimates. Global too-big-too-fail banks are tenants in two of Mr Trump’s most valuable properties. He has courted foreign investors, from Hong Kong to the Middle East, since the 1990s.

Looking back, I believe that the most valuable thing this process has created is the close partnership we have forged that has enabled us to jointly tide over a difficult time. 最珍贵的，在翻译时应添加这个形容词的载体，即范畴词thing。
It may turn out to be a bare and barren rock. The fact that liquid water could be flowing across the surface of the planet just discovered orbiting Proxima Centauri, the nearest star to the sun, does not mean that any actually is—nor for that matter that it has an atmosphere. The fact that water and air, if present, could make this new world habitable does not mean that it is, in fact, a home to alien life.
它也许只不过是一颗贫瘠的岩石行星。这颗最新发现的行星，公转中心是比邻星（距离太阳最近的恒星）。在此行星的表面，可能有流动的液态水。但是这并不意味着液态水就一定存在——也无法确定是它否有大气层。就算水和大气两者兼备，满足了生命所需的条件，也不能保证新发现的这颗星球上就一定存有外星生命。

这个句子较长，可能造成理解困难。标亮处为句子主干。其中要注意分词的统率关系：①discovered指向the planet，即刚被人们发现的这颗行星；②orbiting也指向the planet，即环绕比邻星运行的这颗行星；③the nearest star指比邻星，而不是这颗planet（此外，star和planet应注意区分）。
在mean之后的短句中，any作代词，指代liquid water，is呼应water后面的be，nor为并列连词，连接后面另一个事实，即“有大气层”。

平时注意多积累同一个汉语词汇的不同译法，比如本文中的“很多”，译者用的myriad，不要见到很多就是lots of。

还算比较常规的一段文章，注意区分quantity和quality。

倒数第二段全句很长，然而统率关系清楚，提示词明显，因此翻译时反而有流畅之感。动词全以分词形式出现，重心皆落在名词上。推荐留意并学习这样的长句写作手法。注意前后进行并列时，正确使用分词和介词来连接名词。特别注意的是the threat and the scourge of civil wars and external aggression应在理解文段的基础上进行翻译，如参考译文所说，是内部斗争与外部侵略的威胁与灾祸，切不可翻作“威胁以及内部斗争与外部侵略的灾祸”。

The international combat against terrorism is facing increasingly grim and complex challenges. A serious problem is the entrenchment and spread of ideologies of violent extremism and the sharp increase in endogenous terrorist threats, which have caused severe impact on peace and stability of the international community. China stands for a holistic approach in combating terrorism which addresses both the symptoms and root causes. The UN and its Security Council should play a leading role in international counter-terrorism cooperation and push for the establishment of the broadest counter-terrorism front, enhance coordination and build consensus, and forge greater synergy for international counter-terrorism efforts.
