Week18
笔译群是ScalersTalk旗下的专攻笔译的训练组织，初步设定翻译量目标为十万字。群内活动主要包括每天的每日一句和周六晚上的限时周任务。如果你想提高笔译水平，找到志同道合的小伙伴，请猛戳链接： http://scalers.gitbooks.io/100k-word-translation/content/chapter0.html 完成后在A群，B群或C群私信给Kevin，通过审核便可。笔译训练小组目前50人，每两周清退一次不积极参加训练的组员，每进一位，便移除排在末尾的一位。
下面是笔译训练群的第十八周（2015.08.24—08.29）训练日志，共包括五个每日一句（英译汉，汉译英）和一个周训练（英译汉，汉译英），均包括原文，参考译文，词汇整理以及相关点评。材料主要来源于外刊，政府工作报告以及笔译教材。
DAY113
1.英译汉：
Combining the best genes in one plant is a long and difficult process, especially as traditional plant breeding has been limited to artificially crossing plants within the same species or with closely related species to bring different genes together.
参考译文
集最佳基因于一种植物是一个漫长而又艰难的过程一一特别是传统的作物育种方法，这种方法仅局限于同种或相近物种之间的人工杂交而将不同的基因组合在一起。

2. 汉译英：
1995年，《科学》杂志用一个专栏分析了中国的科学研究，标题为"阔步向前"，概述了中国在农业和食品工业研究方面所取得的巨大进步。例如，早在20世纪80年代中期，就启动了一个大型国家生物技术项目。
参考译文
In 1995 Science magazine devoted a special section to an analysis of scientific research in China, entitled "The Great Leap Forward". It outlined the great advance China made in agriculture- and food-related basic research. For instance, a major national biotechnology program was initiated as early as the mid 1980s.

DAY114
1.英译汉：
Finally, in 1784 William Pitt the Younger introduced the Commutation Act, which dropped the tax on tea from 119% to 12. 5%，effectively ending smuggling. Adulteration remained a problem，though，until the Food and Drug Act of 1875 brought in stiff penalties for the practice.
参考译文
最后，在1784年小威廉.皮特推出了《减刑法令》，将茶税从119%降到12.5% ,有效地制止了走私行为。但是茶叶掺假一直是一个大问题，直到1875年的《食物药品法令》对 掺假行为实施严厉的惩罚，这一问题才得以解决。

2. 汉译英：
原来景颇族举行婚礼，有个传统习俗。新娘在将到新郎家的路上，要越三道路障。事先，由村子里的孩子们拾来树枝、竹条、旧篱笆等，设置障碍，并分工把守"。第一道路障，由一群女孩子把守。
参考译文
This is the custom of Jingpo wedding: the bride must pass three barriers before she gets to the bridegroom's home. The village children will put up obstacles with tree branches, bamboo twigs, and bramble shoots and have them well guarded. The first barrier is guarded by young girls.

看到“在路上”，一般就会“on the way to”,而译文用了before she gets to swh.;再有就是"把守"处理成了“have them guarded”,很值得学习。

1.英译汉：
In this book, they tell their own stories, in their own words; their trials and tribulations in their efforts to contribute towards reaching the global goal of Literacy for All. It is an understatement to say that their job is a challenge.
参考译文
在这本小册子中，你会听到他们用自己的话，讲述他们自己的经历，讲述他们为了实现“全民扫盲”的全球目标所作的努力，以及他们所走过的艰险历程和所经受的种种艰难。说他们的工作是一种挑战，那是远远不够的。

The development of the Olympic Movement in China over the past hundred years drives home the meaning of "Sports success is based on the prosperity of a nation". Today, Chinese government's efforts to fully implement the Scientific Outlook on Development and to build a harmonious society have secured a more favorable environment for sports development in China.

这段话是典型的汉语表达，翻译的时候要注意选择主语以及合适的表达方式。
DAY116
1.英译汉：
First things first - we'll have to build either a giant orbiting launch platform, far bigger than the International Space Station (ISS), or a permanently manned lunar base to provide a springboard for the stars.
参考译文
重要的事情先来。我们必须建造一座巨型的轨道发射台，其规模要远大于国际空间站，或者，建造一个长期驻人的月球基地，作为飞往周围恒星的“跳板”。

DAY117
1.英译汉：
How to Find the Right International Partners The practical business of finding highly productive agents/distributors and joint ventures in the foreign market for many still remains an enigma. Often, US companies are relying on luck instead of strategy in identifying their international representation.
参考译文
如何找到理想的国际贸易伙伴 对于如何在国外市场寻找具有良好合作前景的代理商、分销商或是合资伙伴，许多公司心中无数。美国公司在寻找国际代理时，往往依赖运气，而没有自己的战略措施。
词汇整理
productive 有良好合作前景的，yielding favorable or useful results
enigma 谜，不可思议的东西，难题

难点有二，一是productive，想不到“有合作前景”，二是enigma，是难题。另外identify这个词也值得积累，不能只单一地对应“识别、辨认”这几个词。
2. 汉译英：
这种钢丝每根直径0.19英寸左右，两三百根夹紧扎在一起，成为一股钢丝绳，而整个钢缆可能是由相当数量的这样的钢丝绳紧密结合并用钢丝捆在一起而组成的。
参考译文
Two or three hundred of these wires, each of about 0.19 inch in diameter, are clamped together to form a single strand, and the whole cable may consist of a considerable number of such strands compacted and bound together with wire.
